Commencing 9.00am on the 2nd June 2012

Welcome

Wells Harbour Pre-Empts The Thames

To commemorate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee The Wells Street Party is planning to rival the Thames Pageant with a Flotilla of its own. On Saturday 2nd June 2012 the afternoons high tide will carry a processions of powered vessels of all shape and sizes, some hopefully historical, from the Lifeboat House and into the Quay area in a continuous line.

The Wells Jubilee Flotilla will be an opportunity for owners to decorate their boats with flags and bunting, which will provide an ever changing panorama to the many stalls and activities planned for the Quay, where the street party will take place and playing fields where Ray Hewitt and the Friends of the Playing Field will organise activities for the children.. Smaller craft such as rowing boats, canoes, Kayaks etc will be permitted along the length of the Beach Bank track allowing people to watch from the Beach Road.

Non powered vessels can converge in the Sluice Creek area. All participants in the Flotilla must register at the Harbour Office on 01328 711646, you can do so now.

The Harbour Master has agreed to compere the event and we hope to provide information on the vessels taking part in the Flotilla in a programme. The Harbour Authorities have very kindly allowed the use of the Quay and Harbour.

In the evening we head up to the Buttlands to continue the party with music from the Emma Hall Band and several other bands.

The usual refreshments will be available, Arthur Howell’s Hog Roast and Dedrie Baldry’s burgers.

The Wells History Group are hoping to provide a display.

The street and Quay will be decorated with Flags and we hope the shops will do the same.

Wells In Bloom have agreed to supply appropriately coloured flowers for the party.

We are still looking for sponsorship for the day and if you can help out drop us an email at wellsstreetparty@btinternet.com, or you can contribute via Paypal using the "Donate" button on the right.
